Grower's Notes

  • The rosette habit is what separates it from other Ludwigia. Leaves cluster tightly around the stem rather than spacing out in pairs, so it reads as a column of color rather than a line of leaves. That structure is why it works in Dutch layouts.
  • Two names, one plant. Sold as both glandulosa and peruensis — glandulosa is the accepted name, but people search for peruensis, so both are worth knowing.
  • Slower than Ludwigia repens, which is an advantage in a planned scape — it holds its shape between trims.
  • Once established it needs little intervention. Trim the tops and replant to thicken a group.
  • Rinse the gel off thoroughly and separate the plantlets before planting. Expect some melt converting from emersed growth.
  • New to red plants? Ludwigia repens is easier and colors up faster.

Notes

  • Images shown are for reference. Plant size and coloration may vary based on lighting, nutrient levels, and tank maturity. Transition from emersed to submerged form may involve slight melting before regrowth.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.
