Emerged Growth: Fresh-cut Plants

Most deep red stem plants demand a high-tech tank before they show any colour. Ludwigia Rubin does not. Broad, spade-shaped leaves turn wine red on both surfaces under medium light with no CO₂ at all, which makes it the shortest route to a red midground in a low-tech tank.

What You'll Receive

Fresh, healthy Ludwigia Rubin cultivated and prepared by Aquarium Plants Factory®, available in convenient planting formats.

  • Fresh-cut Plants: Approximately 6+ loose, fresh-cut stems without roots.
  • Fresh-cut Bunched: Approximately 6+ stems bundled with foam and a plant weight for easy planting.
  • Fresh-cut Potted: Approximately 6+ stems securely potted in a net pot with rockwool for stability and convenient planting.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Ludwigia Rubin
  • Scientific nameLudwigia repens 'Rubin'
  • Also known as — Red Diamond, Ludwigia Ruby
  • Origin — Cultivated form of a North and Central American species
  • Placement — Midground to background
  • Shipped size — Approx. 6+ fresh-cut stems, roughly 4-8 inches
  • Mature height — 6-16 inches
  • Suits — 10 gallons and up
  • Growth rate — Medium

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Medium to high
  • CO₂ — Not required. It reddens without injection, which is the whole point of this cultivar
  • Water — 68-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — Required. Nutrient-rich soil or root tabs, plus water column dosing
  • Growth habit — Amphibious stem, feeds from roots and water column
  • Propagation — Cuttings

Grower's Notes

  • This is the red plant to start with. Most reds need high light and injected CO₂ before they colour. Rubin does it on medium light in a low-tech tank — if earlier attempts at a red plant have failed, this is the one that changes that.
  • Both leaf surfaces colour up. Unlike Ludwigia repens, which stays green on top and red underneath, Rubin holds red through the whole leaf. That is why it reads as a solid block of colour from the front of the tank.
  • Low nitrate deepens it, but do not starve it. Rubin darkens when nitrate is kept modest and iron is dosed consistently. Cutting nitrate to zero stalls the plant instead — aim for lean but present.
  • Trim above a node and replant the cutting. Each cut stem branches into two, so repeated trimming builds a dense red thicket rather than a row of single stems.
  • Emersed stock changes shape after planting. Leaves grown out of water are thicker and often greener. The first submersed leaves are broader and considerably redder, so judge the plant by its new growth.

Notes

  • Aquarium plants are living organisms and may naturally vary in size, shape, and coloration depending on season, lighting, and growing conditions. Most plants are grown emersed before shipping and will gradually transition to their submerged form after being introduced into the aquarium.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Already Looking Great!

My stems arrived well packaged, a nice bunch of about six. I separated them into two clumps and buried them fairly deep into the gravel to make sure they didn't come loose. The colors were great when I got them, but they're already looking much more vibrant and happy about a week later, and several of the stems are dropping little runners towards the gravel. Very happy with my purchase!!

Ludwigia repens

Came looking healthy but with no roots...looks like they were cut off. I split them into three small groups to fill in the back side of my tank. Hopefully the roots grow back and take root and it grows into a big healthy plant in the next few months.

First batch of plants & shrimp I ordered from you guys were fabulous which brought me back to purchase more plants & shrimp. The second order has been awful. Someone pulled the orange sakura from the breeding tank which gave me every orange under the sun. Now onto the plants. The plants look great but I HAVE HYDRA! All my standard tanks are infected. You are the only place I have ordered from. All my goby fry are dead. Worst experience ever! I know I should have quarantined but am too trusting. I will NOT ever buy from you again. Anyone reading this review please be careful.
