Want the look of moss on a stem plant? Mayaca fluviatilis grows fine, needle-like bright green foliage in a dense feathery column — soft enough to read as a moss thicket, but it plants and trims like a stem. It moves visibly with the flow, which is most of its appeal.

Grower’s Notes
- Soft water is the requirement people miss. Mayaca does noticeably better in soft, slightly acidic water and struggles in hard alkaline tap. If it thins and pales despite good light and dosing, water chemistry is usually the reason.
- Handle it by the base. The fine foliage strips off where you grip the stem, and those bare nodes do not refoliate.
- Plant stems a little apart and let them fill in. Packed tight, the inner stems shade out and shed from the bottom.
- Trim and replant the tops. Bare lower sections are not worth keeping on a plant grown for its texture.
- The fine leaves trap detritus and suit hair algae. Keep flow moving through the stand and remove affected stems promptly.

I was nervous about the shipping as I know it was going to be traveling through some colder climate states.. the packaging was great, and all plants arrived incredibly healthy! I thought it was dead on arrival because of the hot weather and the bad luck I've experienced with other online aquarium plants retailers. It came alive because it was packaged well with insulation foil. The top of the plants were a little white and yellow, but new shoots are growing at the bottom of the stem. A bit expensive with the amount of stems you receive.

Ordered two bunches to get the buy two, get one free deal and expected about 18 stems, but received about 50!! They shipped from California to Florida so were a bit brown at the ends but I trimmed them and they are doing very well now. The packaging was nice and protective. They are floating while we wait for roots to sprout but my betta loves them already! Would absolutely recommend.

Received 3 generous bunches in excellent condition. Lush and beautiful. I have medium-high hardness water, but with good macro nutrients and high light this flourishes in my tank. Much better than Rotala Wallichii. Gorgeous green stem plant, very fine leaves with striking highlights that are almost white. Be careful, Siamese Algae Eaters will eventually destroy this plant.
