Nymphaea Parn Mongkol | Pink + Yellow Hardy Water Lily

Hardy Water Lily: Young Sprouted Tuber

Price
$22.49

Marbled leaves, pastel flowers. Nymphaea 'Parn Mongkol' is a variegated hardy water lily whose green and white marbled pads are as much the point as the blooms — large pale pink to creamy white flowers with a bright yellow center. Variegated foliage is uncommon in the genus, and it holds interest all season rather than only when the plant is flowering.

What You'll Receive

  • You will get 1 young and freshly harvested water lily tuber
  • All of our water lilies tubers/rhizomes have been inspected before ship out and guaranteed they are viable and perfect to grow in a proper pond environment

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Parn Mongkol Water Lily
  • Scientific name — Nymphaea 'Parn Mongkol'
  • Also known as — 'Pan Mongkol' (common misspelling)
  • Type — Hardy water lily, variegated
  • Flower — Large, pale pink to creamy white with a bright yellow center
  • Foliage — Marbled green and white variegated pads
  • Placement — Ponds and container water gardens, or tanks 20 gallons and up

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Sunlight — Moderate to high light; full sun gives the best flowering
  • Substrate — Nutrient-rich heavy clay or loam in a wide, shallow pot
  • Planting angle — Hardy rhizome: 45°, growing tip up, at the pot edge pointing toward the center
  • Feeding — Aquatic fertilizer tablets through the growing season
  • Overwintering — Cold hardy. Stays in the pond; move the pot below the freeze line in autumn
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • The foliage is the reason to buy it. Green and white marbled pads are rare among water lilies, and they give you something to look at for the whole season rather than only during flushes of bloom. The flowers are a bonus rather than the whole show.
  • Cold hardy, so it stays in the pond over winter — no lifting and no indoor storage.
  • Variegation shows best in good light. In shade the marbling fades toward plain green and the flowering thins out.
  • The pads shade the water and compete for nutrients, which helps hold algae back and keeps the water cooler for fish.
  • Outdoors for flowers, indoors for foliage. Most people grow it in a pond or container water garden. It will also grow indoors in a tank of 20 gallons and up, but blooming there takes sun-level light over a long day, and the pads come fast enough that they need trimming often to keep light reaching the plants below.

Notes

  • We don't ship dormant roots. Your tuber arrives fresh and actively growing with 1–2 young leaves already emerged — visible proof it's viable before it leaves us. Young pads may start fully submerged and will reach the surface within about a week in good light.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.
