Rotala Blood Red Vitro Culture

Most red Rotala only turn red when you starve them. Rotala sp. 'Singapore Blood Red' holds a deep crimson as its normal color under strong light — not a stress response you have to keep provoking. Narrow pointed leaves in tight whorls on upright stems make it a color block rather than a scattering of red tips. This is the sterile Vitro Culture® format.

Grower’s Notes

• Red here is a light response, not a nutrient trick. Unlike many red stems, Blood Red does not need nitrate starvation to color up. Push light and iron and keep feeding normally.
• Trim the tops and replant them; the cuttings color faster than the stumps regrow. Repeating this a few times is how you build a dense red group rather than a few tall stems.
• Pale or dropped leaves in the first fortnight are acclimation, not failure. Keep light and CO₂ steady rather than reacting.
• It dislikes swings. Rotala responds to changes in CO₂ and water parameters faster than most plants — consistency matters more than absolute values.
• Plant stems individually, an inch apart. Bunched stems shade each other and the lower leaves rot off.

• Rotala Blood Red may shed some leaves or become pale after planting — this is a normal part of acclimation. Provide consistent high light and CO₂ to maintain vibrant color. Avoid drastic water parameter changes.
