Rotala Ceylon Vitro Culture

The forgiving pink Rotala, in its cleanest form. Rotala rotundifolia 'Ceylon' is a narrow-leaved Sri Lankan form that grows fast, arches gracefully in the current, and warms from light green toward pink as light increases — without the soft-water demands that make macrandra types difficult. This is the sterile Vitro Culture® (tissue culture) format, so it arrives free of snails, algae and pesticide.

Grower’s Notes

• This is the easy way into pink stem plants. The Rotala people struggle with is macrandra, which wants soft water and CO₂ and sulks without them. 'Ceylon' is a rotundifolia — it tolerates ordinary tap water and still colors under strong light.
• Rinse the gel off completely and separate the plantlets before planting, spacing them an inch apart. Planted as a clump they shade each other and rot at the center.
• Trim hard and often. Topping every couple of weeks forces side shoots and builds a dense group; replant the tops and discard the old bases.
• Sterile media means it goes straight into a shrimp tank with no quarantine.
• Prefer established stems? The same plant is available fresh-cut, bunched or potted.
