Rotala Indica (Ammannia Bonsai) Vitro Culture® – Compact Stem Plant for Aquascaping

Rotala Indica (Ammannia Bonsai) Vitro Culture® is a beautiful compact stem plant prized for its small rounded leaves, upright growth, and clean aquascaping appearance. Often known in the hobby as Ammannia Bonsai, this plant is excellent for creating structured midground layouts, Dutch-style aquariums, and detailed planted tank designs.

Grown in a sterile 4-inch Vitro Culture® bag, this plant is pest-free, algae-free, and snail-free, making it a clean and reliable choice for freshwater aquariums. Each bag yields many small plants, allowing you to separate and plant multiple portions throughout your aquascape.

🌟 Key Features

Scientific Name: Rotala indica
Synonyms: Ammannia sp. ‘Bonsai’, Ammannia Bonsai
Common Name: Rotala Indica, Ammannia Bonsai
Growth Form: Compact stem plant
Placement: Midground / Background
Difficulty: Intermediate

Rotala Indica is known for its slow, compact growth and small rounded leaves that can develop attractive green to reddish tones under strong lighting.

Its upright growth habit makes it ideal for creating neat plant groups, structured aquascapes, and colorful contrast against finer or broader-leaf aquarium plants.

This plant is especially popular in Dutch-style and high-tech planted tanks where controlled trimming and dense grouping are desired.

🌱 Growth & Propagation

Lighting Needs: Medium to High
CO₂ Requirement: Recommended
Growth Rate: Slow to Moderate
Nutrient Substrate: Recommended
Can Be Grown Emersed: Yes

For best results, provide strong lighting, CO₂ supplementation, and a nutrient-rich substrate. Under optimal conditions, Rotala Indica can develop more compact growth and reddish coloration near the tips.

Propagation is simple by trimming healthy stems and replanting the cuttings into the substrate. Regular trimming encourages bushier, denser growth.

🧫 Vitro Culture® Advantages

Vitro Culture® plants are grown in a sterile laboratory environment, making them one of the cleanest ways to start or upgrade a planted aquarium.

Benefits include:

Pest-free, snail-free, and algae-free.

Grown in nutrient gel for clean and healthy development.

Easy to separate into many small portions.

Excellent for new aquascapes, shrimp tanks, and high-end planted aquariums.

🖼️ Aquascaping Benefits

Rotala Indica is perfect for creating compact midground bushes, structured stem plant groups, and colorful highlights in planted aquariums.

Its small leaves and upright form make it useful for scale-sensitive aquascapes, nano tanks, Dutch-style layouts, and detailed aquascaping designs.

When planted in groups, it creates a dense, refined appearance that contrasts beautifully with carpeting plants, mosses, and broad-leaf species.

📦 What You’ll Receive

Fresh, healthy Rotala Indica (Ammannia Bonsai) Vitro Culture® grown and prepared by Aquarium Plants Factory®.

Sold in a 4-inch Vitro Culture® bag.

Each bag yields many small plants that can be separated into multiple planting portions.

Plant size, portion count, and density may vary naturally due to growth stage and cultivation conditions.

⚠️ Disclaimer

Vitro Culture® plants are grown in nutrient gel and should be rinsed thoroughly before planting. Gently remove the plant from the bag, rinse away the gel, separate into smaller portions, and plant into the substrate using aquascaping tweezers.

Some melting or transition may occur after planting as the plant adapts to aquarium conditions. With proper lighting, nutrients, and CO₂, healthy new submerged growth should develop.
