Grower’s Notes

• The leaves change shape completely. Grown above water the leaves are round and coin-like; submerged they become narrow and elongated. Nursery stock arrives in the emersed form, so the plant that grows in will not look like the one you planted. This is normal and catches people out.
• It responds better to trimming than almost any stem plant. Cut it and each stem branches into two, which is how a few stems become a dense hedge.
• Replant the trimmed tops rather than keeping bare lower stems — tops root within days.
• Plant stems a little apart. Packed tight the inner stems shade out and drop their lower leaves.
• Unlike the standard rotundifolia, no amount of light will turn this one pink. If you want color from this genus, that is the plant to buy instead — 'Green' is here to be green.
