Orange, not red. Rotala rotundifolia 'Orange Juice' is a selection that carries orange and light pink through the stems whether grown emersed or submerged — unusual, since most Rotala color only underwater and only under pressure. It gives a warm tone that sits between the greens and the reds in a scape.

Grower’s Notes

• Label it when you plant it. The rotundifolia varieties look nearly identical once they're growing, and there is no reliable way to tell Orange Juice from Green, H'ra or Colorata after they mix. If you're building a Rotala collection, mark each group.
• Color holds in both emersed and submerged form, so what arrives is closer to what you'll keep than with most Rotala.
• Trim the tops and replant them. Repeated topping is what turns six stems into a dense group.
• Plant stems individually an inch apart. Bunched, the lower stems shade out and drop leaves.
• Fast growth makes it a useful nutrient sponge while a new tank settles.
