Staurogyne Repens White Albino Vitro Culture

Price
$19.99

Staurogyne repens is one of the most reliable low carpeting plants in the hobby. The 'White Albino' form takes that familiar shape and strips almost all the green out of it, leaving pale ivory foliage that glows against dark substrate. Less chlorophyll means less energy, so it asks for considerably more than the standard form.

What You'll Receive

One 4-inch sealed Vitro Culture® bag containing healthy Staurogyne Repens 'White Albino' plantlets—ready to rinse, acclimate, and plant with care.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — White Albino Staurogyne
  • Scientific nameStaurogyne repens 'White Albino'
  • Also known asStaurogyne repens 'Variegated'
  • Origin — Cultivated form; the species comes from the Rio Cristalino, Brazil
  • Placement — Foreground to midground
  • Shipped size — Small tissue-cultured plantlets, roughly 1-2 inches
  • Mature height — 2-4 inches
  • Suits — 10 gallons and up
  • Growth rate — Medium

Care

  • Difficulty — Advanced
  • Light — Medium. Note the ceiling — strong light bleaches pale tissue
  • CO₂ — Recommended
  • Water — 68-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — Required. Nutrient-rich soil or root tabs
  • Growth habit — Amphibious creeping stem
  • Propagation — Cuttings — trim and replant stem tops

Grower's Notes

  • Pale tissue burns before green tissue does. Do not treat "needs light" as "needs more light". Medium intensity is the target — strong light bleaches the ivory leaves and algae takes hold on them long before it touches anything green in the tank.
  • Reverted green shoots will appear. Any pale sport can throw fully green growth, and green grows faster. Cut those stems out at the base as soon as you spot them or they will take over the group.
  • Feed the substrate. With reduced pigment the plant cannot afford an inefficient root zone. Aquasoil or root tabs under the planting area make the difference between slow and stalled.
  • Plant small portions, spaced out. Rinse the gel off and separate the culture into groups of two or three plantlets an inch apart. Dense clumps shade their own bases, which this plant recovers from poorly.
  • Want the same carpet without the difficulty? Standard Staurogyne repens is a Beginner plant with the same shape and growth habit — the albino form is a collector's plant, not a workhorse.

Notes

  • Photos shown are sample representations. Actual plant appearance may vary depending on lighting, CO₂, and care. This albino variant is fragile and may melt if not given proper light and nutrients. Not recommended for beginners.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Cam

I'm starting mine in DSM with an atomiser and I want to match your humidity level. What is your humidity level like?

Aquarium Plants Factory

Hi Cam, for DSM (dry start method) with Staurogyne Repens, you'll want to keep humidity high - generally in the 90-100% range - especially for the first 2-3 weeks while roots establish. Misting once or twice a day with a cover (plastic wrap, a dome, or a food container lid) to trap moisture works well; just crack it slightly if you see excessive condensation or any mold starting to form. Our greenhouse conditions vary by season, but that 90%+ range is the target to aim for at home. Good luck with the DSM setup!
