Staurogyne Repens White Albino Vitro Culture

Staurogyne repens is one of the most reliable low carpeting plants in the hobby. The 'White Albino' form takes that familiar shape and strips almost all the green out of it, leaving pale ivory foliage that glows against dark substrate. Less chlorophyll means less energy, so it asks for considerably more than the standard form.

Grower's Notes

• Pale tissue burns before green tissue does. Do not treat "needs light" as "needs more light". Medium intensity is the target — strong light bleaches the ivory leaves and algae takes hold on them long before it touches anything green in the tank.
• Reverted green shoots will appear. Any pale sport can throw fully green growth, and green grows faster. Cut those stems out at the base as soon as you spot them or they will take over the group.
• Feed the substrate. With reduced pigment the plant cannot afford an inefficient root zone. Aquasoil or root tabs under the planting area make the difference between slow and stalled.
• Plant small portions, spaced out. Rinse the gel off and separate the culture into groups of two or three plantlets an inch apart. Dense clumps shade their own bases, which this plant recovers from poorly.
