Weeping Moss Vitro Culture

The moss that grows downward. Vesicularia ferriei — Weeping Moss — sends its fronds hanging rather than spreading, so attached to a branch tip it forms a cascade instead of a mat. That habit is why it is the standard choice for waterfall effects and moss trees. This is the sterile Vitro Culture® format.

  • Mature height — 2–6 in
  • Growth rate — Slow

  • Difficulty — Beginner

  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 68–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Attaches by rhizoids, not true roots
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Fragmentation — divide and re-attach

Grower’s Notes

  • Mount it high to use the habit. Weeping Moss hangs. Tied low on a rock it just looks like ordinary moss; tied to the tip of a branch or the top of a stone it drapes downward and does something no other moss does.
  • It cannot root in substrate — tie it with cotton thread or fishing line until the rhizoids grip.
  • Tie it thinly. Thick pads trap detritus and rot underneath.
  • It feeds from the water column, so liquid dosing does more than substrate here.
  • Algae inside moss is very hard to remove once established — which is exactly what the sterile format avoids.

Notes

  • Pictures are not the actual plants you will receive, but a sample representation. Unless specific, we don't guarantee aquatic plants will be free of pests, and pesticides, grow emerged or submerge.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Awesome plants

This was my first time ordering from this company, but everything came in, packaged beautifully and healthy. I left them in water for about a week before I could get to plant them on my driftwood. They lasted greatly and look great. Can’t wait to see they look like as they get larger.

Not as much as I expected

Because I have no idea how much plant I would get, so my guideline is the picture and I received them today. They were not in the cup, they were in the plastic and not much of them. The plants are healthy and the shipping on time but I was disappointed with the amount. It’s false advertisement.

High Quality

I'm truly impressed by the quality produce I received. I've shopped at several aquatic suppliers but none can be compared to Aquarium Plants Supplies. This is the ideal place to shop.

Beautiful!

I got several plants, and they all arrived safely, and look amazing! Vibrant green; happy and healthy! So far they are staying in the cups while I get a tank together and with daily misting they are still going strong. Hopefully they'll thrive in my tank!

Can't wait for it to grow out!

I bought this weeping moss after seeing it in someone else's tank on Facebook. It was so beautiful draping down their aquascape after a year's worth of growth. I knew it would be perfect for my Whomping Willow tree in my Harry Potter tank! The portion was a little smaller than I was expecting as it didn't fill the cup entirely but it was still enough to cover the ends of the branches of my tree. I'm new to moss and aquascaping so I probably could have done a better job attaching it but I like it anyway. And most importantly, for me, it's snail free!!

weeping moss

I have a history of struggling to get some tissue culture plants started. Although it has only be a few days so far the moss looks great. It was a pale but bright green on arrival and after just a couple days in my tank it is already developing a deeper more mature color. Very pleased with the moss and stem plants I ordered.
