Rotala ramosior 'Florida' is a fast-growing stem plant known for its striking red-to-purple coloration, which intensifies under strong light. It's a favorite for adding a bold splash of color to the mid-ground or background of a planted tank.
Strong lighting is the single biggest factor in getting good color from this plant. Aim for medium-high to high light — too little and it reverts to a duller green-brown.
Adaptable to a range of conditions, but does best in stable water with pH 6.0–7.5 and temperatures between 72–82°F. Avoid sudden swings in parameters, which can stress the plant and slow growth.
A nutrient-rich substrate supports strong root development. On inert substrates, supplement with root tabs and a complete liquid fertilizer — potassium and iron in particular help push out the red and purple tones.
Not required, but CO2 injection noticeably speeds growth and deepens color. If you're chasing the most vivid red-purple hues, CO2 is worth adding.
Trim regularly to keep a bushy shape and prevent the plant from stretching toward the light. Cut stems root easily when replanted, making this an easy plant to propagate and fill out a tank quickly.
Our Rotala Ramosior Florida is a great way to add fast-growing color to a mid-tech or high-tech planted aquarium.
Green or dull coloring usually means insufficient light or nutrients — boost light intensity and dose a complete fertilizer with iron and potassium. Leggy, stretched growth is a sign the plant needs more light and more frequent trimming.
Clean, healthy plants and expert guidance for thriving, beautiful aquascapes.
