Anubias Barteri Dark Angel

Emerged Growth: Bare-root Plants

Price
$24.99

Darker than the rest. Anubias barteri 'Dark Angel' grows thick, slightly wavy leaves in an unusually deep green with a matte rather than glossy surface — so it absorbs light where other Anubias reflect it. Against pale sand or light rock that contrast is the entire point.

What You’ll Receive

Sold as loose bare-root or potted plant:

  • Bare-root Plants: 6+ leaf small portion, loose with healthy rhizome
  • Potted Plants: 6+ leaf plant, fully rooted in rock wool and net pot

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Dark Angel Anubias
  • Scientific nameAnubias barteri 'Dark Angel'
  • Placement — Midground, attached to wood, stone or décor
  • Mature height — 6–10 in
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium. Avoid intense light — it invites algae on slow-turning leaves
  • CO₂ — Not required, though micronutrient dosing improves color
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Attaches to hardscape
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed — suits terrariums and paludariums
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower’s Notes

  • Dark works best against light. In a scape built on dark wood and black substrate this plant disappears. On pale stone, light sand, or beside bright green plants it reads as sculptural depth — place it deliberately.
  • Never bury the rhizome. Attach with thread or aquarium-safe glue, avoiding gluing the rhizome itself; buried rhizomes rot.
  • Deep color and slow growth mean algae shows clearly on these leaves. Keep it shaded and the tank balanced.
  • Divide with a clean blade, keeping at least three leaves and some roots per section.
  • Still uncommon in the trade — supply is limited and irregular.

Want to go deeper? Read our complete Anubias Care Guide.

Notes

  • Avoid burying the rhizome in substrate, as this may cause rot. Attach to rocks or driftwood using thread or aquarium-safe glue (avoid gluing the rhizome directly). This slow-growing plant may develop algae under strong lighting without proper balance.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

One of the first plants I ordered 3 months ago. Filling in nicely on the wood. Love the dark green. I’m hooked on these. Will be ordering more. Fast shipping arrived in excellent condition. Love the buy 2 get one free. My first time doing live plants and this is now my go to. I want them all!

Compact, great color

I ordered 2+1 free and I received really healthy plants with new leaves coming in and and great portions. I even split one into a 4th portion and probably could have done the same in another. I also ordered beautiful golden nana and they contrast so great with each other but I really love this compact size and dark color especially with the lighter color new leaves. I love Anubias and buce and this is definitely one of my favorites. I’ll be ordering more because I’m too impatient to wait for it to hire enough to take a cutting.

Showed up in pristine condition!

The Dark Angels literally showed up in the package like they were straight out of a stock photo… right now they’re in a new tank melting a little bit because they were grown out of water which is something people need to remember when introducing APF plants to your tank. I’m running Co2 and in a few weeks I know they’re going to look stunning. APF does it again.
