Anubias Petite Coin is a cross between Anubias Barteri Round (Golden Coin) and Anubias Nana 'Petite' — it takes the thick, coin-shaped leaf from one parent and the compact size from the other. No other small Anubias has this leaf shape. This is the bulk listing for aquascapers planting a full hardscape rather than a single accent.

What You'll Receive

  • Loose Rhizome: ~6+ leaves, bare-root and ready to attach to hardscape
  • Potted Plant: ~6+ leaves planted in rockwool within a net pot for easy placement

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Petite Coin Anubias
  • Scientific name — Anubias barteri var. nana 'Petite Coin'
  • Parentage — Anubias Barteri Round (Golden Coin) × Anubias Nana 'Petite'
  • Origin — Cultivated hybrid; the genus is native to West and Central Africa
  • Placement — Foreground to midground, on wood or stone
  • Mature height — 2-4 inches
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium. Excess light means algae on slow-turning leaves.
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderately hard
  • Substrate — Not required. Attaches to hardscape.
  • Growth habit — Amphibious; also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • Never bury the rhizome. Roots can go into substrate; the rhizome cannot. Buried, it rots — the most common way an Anubias is lost.
  • Buying in quantity is the only sensible way to cover a large piece of wood with a slow-growing plant. Anubias adds roughly one leaf every few weeks, so density has to come from the plants you start with, not from waiting.
  • Space divisions about two inches apart along the rhizome line. They creep together over a season without ever needing to be replanted.
  • Thick waxy leaves hold up in tanks that shred softer plants, which is why Anubias survives with cichlids and large fish where most planting fails.
  • Divide with a clean blade, keeping at least three leaves and some roots per section.
