Anubias Butterfly (Small Size)

Format: Bare-root Plants Pack: 1 Plant

Price
$5.99

Wing-shaped leaves with gently ruffled edges, on a compact plant. Anubias 'Butterfly' has an outline no other Anubias offers, and at this size it works where a standard barteri would overwhelm the layout — nano tanks, bonsai trees, and detailed hardscape.

What You'll Receive

Fresh, healthy Anubias Butterfly (Small Size) cultivated and prepared by Aquarium Plants Factory®:

  • Loose Bare-Root Plant: 1 compact plant with a healthy rhizome and multiple leaves
(Size and leaf count may vary slightly due to natural growth conditions)

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Butterfly Anubias (Small)
  • Scientific name — Anubias barteri 'Butterfly'
  • Origin — Cultivated form; the genus is native to West and Central Africa
  • Placement — Midground, attached to driftwood, lava rock or stone
  • Mature height — 3-5 inches
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium; avoid strong direct light
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Epiphyte — tie or glue the rhizome to hardscape; never bury it.
  • Growth habit — Amphibious; grows emersed as well as submersed
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • Small size, small scale. This is the compact grade of Butterfly — the ruffled leaf edge only reads as texture when the plant is in proportion to the layout. On a large piece of wood in a 75-gallon it disappears; in a nano tank or on a bonsai branch it carries the scape.
  • Attach it high, not low. The ruffled margins collect detritus in still water near the substrate. Mount it where there is gentle flow across the leaves.
  • Never bury the rhizome. Roots can go into substrate; the thick horizontal stem cannot. Tie it with cotton thread or a spot of gel glue and it will grip within weeks.
  • Keep the light low to medium. Anubias grows too slowly to outgrow algae, and shade — not vigor — is what keeps a textured leaf clean.
  • Divide only once it has bulked up. A small plant split into smaller pieces will sit still for a long time; wait until you have five or six leaves per intended section.

Notes

Photos are for reference only. As a natural live plant, size, leaf shape, and coloration may vary. Do not bury the rhizome, as this can cause rot.

Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.
