Format: Bare-root Plants

Price
$5.99

Height from an Anubias. Anubias congensis grows long, lance-shaped leaves on upright stalks reaching ten to fourteen inches — one of the few in the genus that can hold a background position rather than sitting as a midground accent.

What You'll Receive

  • Loose rhizome | approx. 6+ leaf, loose, bare-root, small portion
  • Potted plants | approx 6+ leaf, potted plants with Rockwool and net pot

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Congensis Anubias (Congo)
  • Scientific name — Anubias congensis
  • Also known as — Anubias Congo

  • Placement — Midground to background, attached to hardscape
  • Mature height — 10-14 inches
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium. Strong light means algae on slow-turning leaves.
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Epiphyte; attaches to wood or stone. Keep the rhizome exposed.
  • Growth habit — Amphibious; also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • This is a species in its own right, not a barteri variety. Anubias congensis stands separately in the genus, which is why it reaches two to three times the height of nana or petite. Buy it when you want an Anubias that gives vertical structure.
  • Plan the placement for the mature size. At ten to fourteen inches it will shade whatever sits behind it. Mount it toward the back, and give it a 10-gallon tank or larger.
  • Never bury the rhizome. Roots can go into substrate; the rhizome cannot. Buried, it rots — the most common way an Anubias is lost.
  • Long stalks make it top-heavy when bare-root. Attach it firmly to something solid or it will topple until the roots grip.
  • Divide with a clean blade, keeping several leaves and some roots per section.
