If you only ever buy one aquarium plant, buy this one. Anubias barteri var. nana grows in low light, needs no CO₂ and no special substrate, attaches to wood and stone, and its thick leathery leaves survive fish that destroy everything softer. It asks for almost nothing and does not die.

Grower’s Notes
- Never bury the rhizome. Roots can go into substrate; the thick horizontal stem cannot. Buried, it rots — this single mistake accounts for most dead Anubias.
- Slow growth cuts both ways. Almost no maintenance, but damaged leaves never recover — trim them off at the rhizome instead of waiting.
- Algae on the leaves means too much light for a plant that turns over this slowly. Move it into shade under taller plants or wood.
- Divide with a clean blade, keeping at least three leaves and some roots per section. Each division is a new plant.

Upon arrival, the plant looked great but once I took it out of the bag, the leaves were limp and 4 fell off. Only 2 leaves stayed attached. I was able to salvage the rhizome and remaining leaves but I'm worried about if it'll thrive. It seems very fragile. I think it may have just been stressed from the shipping. I hope it'll grow strong in my tank.
