Thicker than a standard Nana. Anubias barteri var. nana 'Fatty Thick Leaf' grows unusually heavy, waxy, dark green leaves on a compact rhizome — rigid enough to shrug off fish and snails that mark softer Anubias.

Care

• Difficulty — Beginner
• Light — Low to medium. Low light also keeps algae off leaves the plant is too slow to replace.

• Substrate — Not required. Epiphyte — attach the rhizome to driftwood, stone or décor and never bury it.

Grower's Notes

• Leaf thickness is the whole product. Standard Nana already survives most tanks; this one holds up where snails rasp and larger fish nip. If softer Anubias in your tank shows pitting or grazing marks, this is the version to buy.
• Never bury the rhizome. Roots can go into substrate; the rhizome cannot. Buried, it rots — the most common way an Anubias is lost.
• Thick waxy leaves are also a good grazing surface for shrimp once biofilm develops, without the plant taking damage.
• Some leaf melt on introduction is normal for Anubias. The rhizome survives it; new leaves follow.
• Divide with a clean blade, keeping at least three leaves and some roots per section, and attach each division to hardscape.
