Anubias Petite White | Small Vitro Culture Cup

Price
$19.99

White variegation on the smallest Anubias. Anubias barteri var. nana 'Petite White' carries irregular white marbling across leaves under an inch across — one of the rarest and most expensive Anubias in the trade, and one of the least forgiving. This is the small tissue culture cup.

What You'll Receive

  • Sold as a small 1 oz tissue culture cup
  • One of the rarest Anubias on the market

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Petite White Anubias
  • Scientific name — Anubias barteri var. nana 'Petite White'
  • Origin — Cultivated variegated form; the genus is native to West and Central Africa
  • Placement — Midground, attached to hardscape
  • Mature height — 1-3 inches
  • Growth rate — Very slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Advanced
  • Light — Low to medium. Bright light scorches white tissue and feeds algae — the usual way this plant is lost.
  • CO₂ — Not required. Stable conditions matter far more.
  • Water — 72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Epiphyte — attach the rhizome to rock or driftwood with thread or glue and never bury it.
  • Growth habit — Amphibious; also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • White tissue carries no chlorophyll — that is why this is Advanced. A heavily marbled leaf makes far less energy than a green one, so the plant grows very slowly, recovers badly from damage, and cannot outgrow algae on the pale areas. Anubias is famously hardy; this cultivar is the exception.
  • It can revert. Variegated Anubias sometimes starts pushing plain green leaves. Remove fully green shoots promptly — green tissue photosynthesizes better and will gradually take the plant over.
  • Never bury the rhizome. Roots can go into substrate; the rhizome cannot. Buried, it rots, and a plant this slow will not grow back from it.
  • Rinse the gel off with aquarium or dechlorinated water, not tap, before attaching.
  • Buy it as a single feature against dark wood or stone. Scattered around a tank the effect is lost, and at this price that matters.

Good but too tiny and weak

I like Anubias Petite White. But to be honest I expected the plant to be a little bigger even for a tissue cup. Right now I don't know how to settle it properly because I already had bad experience in past trying to raise it and it just melted in the aquarium.
