Bacopa Salzmannii

Emersed Growth: Fresh-cut Plants

Price
$7.99

A colour-shifting stem plant with rounded, slightly elliptical leaves. Grown emersed it is green; once submerged it moves through light orange to pink and purple, and how far it goes depends on your light and nutrients.

  • Fresh-Cut Plants: Approximately 6 individual, loose-cut stems without root
  • Bunched Plants: Approximately 6 stems without root bundled with foam and a plant weight

Grower’s Notes

  • It arrives green, and that is correct. The colour shift only happens after it converts to submersed growth, which takes a few weeks — judge it then, not on arrival.
  • Colour intensity tracks light and lean nitrate. A heavily fed tank keeps it green and leafy no matter how strong the lighting.
  • Propagate by tip and side cuttings. Replant the trimmed tops to thicken a stand rather than waiting for bare stems to refill.
  • Some melt in transit is normal for emersed-grown stems. Fresh submersed growth follows once conditions are stable.
  • Looking for the variety that keeps its purple even when grown emersed? See Bacopa salzmannii 'Purple' (the Singapore form).

Want to go deeper? Read our complete Bacopa Care Guide.

Notes

  • Photos are for reference; colour varies considerably with lighting, CO₂ and nutrients. Unless specified as tissue culture, we cannot guarantee plants are free of all pests or pesticides.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

decent plant, not the deep purple kind tho

high tech tank. (high light, co2, twice a week fert), if you look to the left, i even get the ludwigia white to have a strong white/pink coloration after 3 weeks (still transitioning). this bacopa plant is healthy, the top will turn to light pink color, but cant get it to show a strong purple hue. i think there is a different purple variant that has much deeper color from leaves to the stem.

Bacopa Salzmannii 'Purple'

Kind of a reddish purple hue on the top leaves. I put some root tabs under it when I planted and forget to fertilize it very regularly. CO2 and a strong light. Fluval stratum soil.

They’re taking off!

This is the second time I’ve purchased Bacopa salzmanii ‘purple’ from APF - the first time I killed it with a bleach dip trying to get rid of staghorn algae lol. When you get the plant, it’s in it’s emerged state. It will be green. This is normal, guys. Once submerged, with the right nutrients, CO2, and lighting, it turns purple. I promise. It takes awhile, but its worth it. In my tank, it turns a dusty dark mauve-ish color on the tops of the leaves. I plant it where it will get the most light right under my strip light.

Pictured here, with the danio, is the salzmanii that I received a week ago. No melt, strong and healthy. No purple yet, but it literally takes months.

The second photo I’m attaching is from a plant I got months ago. It is the remnant of my first order showing the change to purple. This plant was propagated from a tiny cutting that I salvaged after killing most of it with bleach. No filters, no editing. It’s purple and still being propagated from that 1” cutting I salvaged. Oh this is even without CO2 btw, this is in my low tech shrimp tank.

Disappointed

My plants do not look purple at all.

Hello. Because they are still emerged plant. They will turn purple color when grow fully submerged, in optimal condition, high tech aquarium.

Wow!

There are several varieties of Bacopa Salzmannii 'Purple' around, some of them are "a bit" purple, rarely they are truly purple. This APF-grown variety arrived in a beautiful fresh-cut condition (as if it had not been shipped at all, just cut fresh in a garden) and after 3 days the plants already gave new leaves at the top. They are astonishingly, truly, dark purple!!!

Does this plant take root once planted in gravel or will it have to be anchored? And I have a goldfish, can this stand against it or will it just be devoured?

Aquarium Plants Factory

Bacopa salzmannii is a stem plant, so once planted a couple inches into the gravel it will grow its own roots and anchor itself over the following week or two - you don't need to permanently anchor it, though a plant weight can help hold it in place until it roots. As for goldfish: they're unfortunately one of the toughest fish on live plants. They're omnivorous grazers that will often uproot, nibble, and dig around soft-leaved stem plants like this one. Some goldfish keepers have luck with tougher, well-rooted plants, but there's a real risk they'll uproot or snack on it, especially while it's still getting established.

Alternanthera Rosanervig Mini is a striking, small-leaved cultivar of the popular Alternanthera family, prized for its vivid pink to red coloration and compact growth habit. Ideal for nano tanks and high-impact foreground to midground layouts, this miniature variety features pronounced pink veining on each leaf, adding a dramatic contrast against green aquatic plants.
