💜 Bacopa salzmannii 'Purple' – Singapore Variant

Bacopa salzmannii 'Purple' (Singapore Variant) is a rare and highly coveted stem plant admired for its vivid magenta to deep purple tones—a true showstopper in any planted aquarium. Unlike the standard Bacopa salzmannii, this unique Singapore form maintains its striking purple coloration both emersed and submerged, making it an exceptional centerpiece or accent plant for aquascapes of all styles.

Beyond its beauty, this plant provides ecological balance by absorbing excess nutrients, improving water quality, and supporting a healthy aquatic environment.

My favorite plant

I am so happy with my Bacopa salzmannii. I ordered these from here last fall, and I was happy then too. However, this batch is even better than I could have expected. Last time, my plants arrived much leggier than these, they were pale and also very short and skinny. This time, the leaves on the stems I’ve received are HUGE and very purple. The stems themselves are also much thicker. In my picture, the stems are curled at the top but have since straightened out and they are starting to work on new growth already. I live in Ohio and for some reason ordered plants when it was -15° outside. My plants did not show any signs of having been frozen during their journey. Be advised that this company does not use heat packs, but I don’t think they need to after seeing how well my plants are doing. They even got stuck in the cold at my local post office for an extra day.

Shipping came pretty fast

Shipping came pretty fast. Plants looked very healthy, but after two days of in my tank, they all melted away. Pretty much what I paid for is all dead.

They came healthy

They came practically all healthy. A few of them were a little melted due to the traveling. But sadly enough, only a few of my order survived in the tank after a few days. The majority of them melted.

More than Expected

I ended up with more plants than I expected, and even though there was a shipping issue (that was my fault) they were in excellent condition on arrival! There were roots attached and it was already a bit purple. I can tell they will grow well.

Fantastic Plants

I purchased the bunched plants that came with a lead weight and foam. Plants came healthy and with viable roots. So far, none have failed. The plants arrived whitish green on the top with some lavender coloration near the bottom, but have now darked and purple coloration has moved to the top of the plants at the bottom of the leaves. They are a bit leggy, but after some more growth I believe a trim will fix this (and you get more plants from propagation). It's interesting how fuzzy they are. Packaging was immaculate. I should have ordered from APF from the beginning instead of being burned by Etsy sellers. Order your plants from APF.

Nice plant but the color is unstable and they are not very graceful

This is a nice plant to add variety to your aqua space and they seem fairly hardy (but more delicate than the all green variety). I keep bettas and I do not keep a substrate. I mix these plant with the all green version and an assortment of plants. One effect that they have is cause the bettas to seem less prominent and create a bit of camouflage when they are among the plants because the purple and it dark values connect to the bettas colors and patterns. I like this effect. However, other keepers might not. All that said, I have seen other reviews and their images. One person shows their appearance planted in a row in the substrate and I agree that they look leggy. They might look better as a bunch in the substrate unless they are fast growers. Also, mine have been in a window in all-day indirect like and the purple color is going in two directions in different vessels. It is either turning very dark even in a lot of light or they are turning toward a red color that is a bit anemic looking, but okay looking. In short, they work fine for my purpose of adding variety to my floating plants but be aware that their color is unstable and their stems' straight form is not graceful in the water.

Generous and healthy appearing

Beautiful plants. I received a generous amount and they were healthy appearing.

Very pretty, but fragile

Having never done aquascaping, this plant intimidated me. I was so afraid of breaking the hollowish stem trying to plant them and get them to stay put. I managed to get them in, same for one that was just plain stubborn lol. It's still floating in my tank and is thriving all the same, so I say if it's not broke I'm not fixing it ha! They were mostly green on arrival with purplish brown edges. Since being planted, they're all purple now except the very top, and I've only had them in a week.

Bacopa Salzmanni purple

Received 8 fresh cut stalks. Bunched in to 2 separate plantings. No melting and already getting growth on tops. I'm glad I tried these. Happy with color and appearance.

Growing healthy roots after 3 weeks

Lost some of the color in my tank, but I am currently adjusting the lighting for the mid intensity, so that was to be expected. Gret plant, healthy clippings, float to get new roots, then plant.
