Wavy edges, red leaves. Cryptocoryne undulatus 'Red' grows narrow, strongly undulating leaves — the ripple is what gives the species its name — in shades running from light pink to deep red depending on light and feeding. Movement in the leaf edge plus warm color, on a plant that needs neither CO₂ nor strong lighting.

Grower’s Notes

• Color without difficulty. The red Crypts that get talked about — Flamingo, Albida 'Red' — are Advanced plants. Undulatus 'Red' gives warm red on a beginner plant, which makes it the sensible first colored Crypt.
• Expect melt after planting. Crypts drop their leaves on a change of conditions and rebuild from the roots over two to four weeks. Leave them alone.
• Place it once. Every move triggers another melt.
• How red it goes varies with light, water and feeding — the same plant can look pink in one tank and near-burgundy in another.
