Eleocharis Acicularis Vitro Culture

The original hairgrass carpet. Eleocharis acicularis spreads by runners into a fine, needle-leaved lawn that stands 3–6 inches — taller and more flowing than the Mini form, so it reads as meadow grass rather than a close-cropped carpet. Dense enough that fry disappear into it. This is the sterile Vitro Culture® (tissue culture) format.

Grower’s Notes

• Taller than you may expect. Standard acicularis runs 3–6 inches and flows with the current. If you want a short, flat lawn instead, buy Eleocharis sp. Mini — the difference in final look is substantial.
• Split the portion into small tufts and plant them half an inch apart. Planted as one mass it takes far longer to close.
• Trim the carpet once. Cutting the blades back triggers a flush of new runners and thickens the mat.
• Feed at the roots — runner production stalls without a nutrient substrate or root tabs.
• Its height and density make it genuinely useful in breeding tanks, where fry need somewhere to vanish. Also available bare-root.
