Need a background that fills fast? Hygrophila corymbosa 'Angustifolia' — Hygro Willow — grows long, narrow, willow-like leaves on upright stems and reaches 10–20 inches without CO₂. The narrow leaf is what sets it apart from the broad-leaved Hygrophila most people know: a softer, more feathery screen rather than a solid wall.

Grower’s Notes

  • Fast growth is the feature and the chore. This is the plant to use when a new tank looks empty — it fills a background in weeks and soaks up excess nutrients while the tank settles. It also needs trimming every few weeks or it shades everything in front of it.
  • Trim above a leaf node and replant the tops. Cuttings root within days, so three stems become a hedge quickly.
  • Lower leaves dropping usually means the group is planted too densely. Space stems an inch apart so light reaches down the stem.
  • It feeds from both roots and water column — root tabs plus regular dosing keeps the leaves green rather than pale.
  • Too tall for your tank? The broad-leaved Siamensis and dwarf 'Kompakt' stay at 4-8 inches with the same easy care.

Notes

  • Pictures are not the actual plants you will receive, but a sample representation. Unless specific, we don't guarantee aquatic plants will be free of pests, and pesticides, grow emerged, or submerge.

Hygro Willow (Hygrophila Angustifolia)

Stems arrived in great condition. These have adapted to two different low tech tanks with similar results. Rooting well and almost no melting so far, new leaves coming at the top and at some of the nodes.
