Grower's Notes

  • Do not bury the rhizome. The thick creeping stem sits on or just under the substrate surface with roots below it. Buried, it rots — and at this growth rate the plant does not recover.
  • Expect melt on transition. Like Cryptocoryne, Lagenandra sheds leaves when conditions change. Tissue culture plants convert from emersed growth and will drop most of what they arrive with. The rhizome is what matters.
  • Bigger than the Meeboldii forms. At 8-14 inches this is a background plant, where L. meeboldii stays around 6-10 and works midground.
  • Rinse the gel off completely and set each rhizome shallowly, roots down and growing points clear.
  • Thick leaves give strong visual contrast against fine-leaved stem plants, and hold up in tanks where softer planting is grazed. For an established plant, see the bare-root version.

Notes

  • Images show mature, submerged growth for reference. Plants are delivered in emersed Vitro Culture® form and may appear smaller upon arrival. Minor leaf melt during acclimation is normal—new growth will follow under stable conditions.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.
