Deep violet-purple, and it blooms until frost. Nymphaea 'Director George T. Moore' is a tropical water lily carrying large star-shaped flowers 4–6 inches across in a strong violet-purple, strongly fragrant, over broad rounded green pads. It flowers profusely from June until the first frost stops it.

Grower's Notes

• How to store the tuber over winter. After the first frost, lift the tuber, hose it clean, let it dry for several days, then store it in a jar of distilled water or in moist sand at around 50–55°F until spring. Done properly this saves a tropical lily year after year rather than buying again each season.
• Light is what decides indoor flowering. Most of these go into ponds, but the plant will grow indoors in a tank of 20 gallons or up. The violet blooms appear only under very strong, sun-like lighting run for a long day — anything less gives leaves and no flowers. Pads come quickly in a warm tank, so trim them back regularly to keep the surface open.
• One of the strongest purples available in a tropical lily, and highly fragrant with it — the two do not always come together.
• Blooms from June right through to frost, so the display runs the length of the season rather than peaking early.
• Plant in a container rather than free into the pond bottom. It keeps the plant manageable and makes the autumn lift straightforward.
• Attracts bees and dragonflies, which is worth having in a pond you want balanced.

Notes

• We don't ship dormant roots. Your tuber arrives fresh and actively growing with 1–2 young leaves already emerged — visible proof it's viable before it leaves us. Young pads may start fully submerged and will reach the surface within about a week in good light.
• Remove yellowing pads and spent flowers as they appear to keep the water clean and push energy into new growth.
