Bacopa Caroliniana Tissue Culture Cup - Aquarium Plants Factory

Bacopa Caroliniana Vitro Culture

Price
$12.99

Want a stem plant that smells of lemon? Bacopa caroliniana genuinely does — crush a leaf and it releases a citrus scent. Underwater it is a slow, upright, thick-leaved plant that turns pink to red at the tips under strong light. This is the sterile Vitro Culture® format.

What You'll Receive

Fresh, healthy Bacopa Caroliniana Vitro Culture® grown and prepared by Aquarium Plants Factory®:

  • One sealed 4-inch Vitro Culture® bag
  • Contains multiple plantlets grown in nutrient gel
  • Ready to rinse and plant directly into your aquarium

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Lemon Bacopa, Bacopa Carolina
  • Scientific name — Bacopa caroliniana
  • Also known as — Bacopa amplexicaulis
  • Origin — Southeastern United States
  • Placement — Midground to background
  • Shipped size — Small tissue-cultured plantlets, roughly 1-2 in
  • Mature height — 8–16 in
  • Suits — 10 gallons and up
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Medium. Stronger light brings pink and red into the upper leaves
  • CO₂ — Recommended, not required
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard
  • Substrate — Required. Root and water column feeder
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Works in paludariums and ripariums
  • Propagation — Cuttings — trim and replant stem tops

Grower's Notes

  • Slow growth is the selling point. Unlike most stems it does not need weekly trimming to stay presentable, which makes it one of the few background plants that suits a low-maintenance tank.
  • The thick succulent leaves let it ride out swings that thin-leaved stems will not — part of why it is so hard to kill.
  • It arrives green. Pink and red develop in the upper leaves after it converts to submerged growth, and only under decent light.
  • Separate the plantlets and plant them an inch apart. A bag planted as one clump rots at the center.
  • Rinse the gel off completely before planting or it feeds algae in the first weeks. Also available as loose fresh-cut stems or the 'Variegated' form.

Notes

  • As with all tissue culture plants, gentle rinsing is required to remove nutrient gel before planting. Transition from emersed to submerged growth may cause minor leaf shedding as the plant adapts—this is normal and temporary.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Better than expected

Shipping from California to Georgia for over a week didn't affect the plants at all. They were well packaged and fully alive. I even received more than I thought I would get.
