Snowflake Moss grows in flat, triangular fronds that fan out like the shape it is named for — nothing else in the moss range looks like it. It is also one of the slowest, which is the trade-off: a distinctive plant that takes its time and needs keeping clean.

Grower's Notes

  • Slow growth means algae is the real enemy. A moss this slow cannot outgrow algae settling on its fronds. Amano or cherry shrimp, otocinclus or nerite snails keep it clean far more effectively than manual cleaning — and a grazing crew is close to essential for this one.
  • It is a Thuidium, not a Vesicularia. Snowflake Moss is sometimes listed under the wrong genus. That matters when you search for care advice — Vesicularia mosses like Christmas Moss are faster and more forgiving than this one.
  • Cooler water suits it. It holds its shape better at the lower end of the range. Run warm and it thins out and traps more debris.
  • Attach it thin, not thick. Spread a single layer over wood or mesh. A thick pad shades its own base, which browns and lets go — and on a moss this slow that loss takes months to recover.
  • Keep flow across it. Moss in dead water collects detritus, and detritus is what algae grows on. Moderate current does most of the maintenance for you.

  • Pictures are not the actual plants you will receive, but a sample representation. Unless specific, we don't guarantee aquatic plants will be free of pests, and pesticides, grow emerged or submerge.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Customers praised the vibrant green foliage and unique appearance of this moss. "Fantastic shipping and plant quality" with healthy specimens. While most love it for terrariums, some noted uncertainty about long-term submersion in aquariums. The moss features attractive leaf patterns, though bottoms can appear scraggly. Overall, shoppers appreciated the rare find.

Cool and unique

Don't often see this Thuidium sp. being sold as an aquarium specimen, but I decided to give it a try. Nice green foliage which has a nice leaf pattern. The bottoms are a bit scraggily looking and dark but that's because this moss will grow from what appears to be dead. A bit more unruly than other mosses, but really neat nonetheless. hope mine acclimate well to aquatic life.

jimm

Okay so after all the research i did with the limited information i could find these moss (Thuidium sp.) are not aquatic moss and do not maintain good growth in the aquarium. is this true? which species is this in particular?

Aquarium Plants Factory

Hi jimm, you did your research well! Yes, this is Thuidium sp. "Snowflake" - it's technically a rheophyte/epiphyte moss rather than a true aquatic species. It CAN survive and even grow submerged, but it's genuinely more finicky than true aquatic mosses like Java Moss - it wants cooler water, strong lighting, and consistent CO2 to hold up long-term underwater, and growth is very slow either way. It actually does best grown emerged in a high-humidity terrarium/paludarium setup, where it's much easier to keep thriving. If you want a carpet-forming moss purely for a fully submerged tank, something like Java Moss, Christmas Moss, or Flame Moss will give you a much easier time. Happy to help you pick an alternative if that's more your setup!

Alternanthera Rosanervig Mini is a striking, small-leaved cultivar of the popular Alternanthera family, prized for its vivid pink to red coloration and compact growth habit. Ideal for nano tanks and high-impact foreground to midground layouts, this miniature variety features pronounced pink veining on each leaf, adding a dramatic contrast against green aquatic plants.
