Emersed Growth: 1 Plant (5+ Leaf)

Price
$8.99

Want red from a plant that needs nothing? Kedagang Red, also known as Red Godzilla, is among the darkest Bucephalandra we grow. Long, narrow, slightly curled leaves with a leathery texture, running deep red through bronze with a metallic sheen. No CO₂, no substrate, no strong light required.

What You’ll Receive

Sold as loose bare-root plants:

  • 1 Plant: Loose bare-root with approximately 6+ leaves
  • 5 Plants: Loose bare-root with approximately 25+ leaves total
  • 10 Plants: Loose bare-root with approximately 50+ leaves total

Each plant is carefully developed in a controlled laboratory environment (ex-vitro), producing robust, young specimens with excellent vitality and adaptability. As living plants, size, coloration, and leaf shape may vary and will continue to mature and enhance over time in your aquarium.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Kedagang Red Buce, also known as Red Godzilla
  • Scientific nameBucephalandra sp. 'Kedagang Red'
  • Origin — Borneo
  • Placement — Foreground to midground, on wood or stone
  • Mature height — 2–4 in
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium. Stronger light deepens the red and violet
  • CO₂ — Not required. It improves color and pace, nothing more
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Attaches to hardscape
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower’s Notes

  • Never bury the rhizome. Roots may sit in substrate; the rhizome cannot. Buried, it rots — the usual way an expensive Buce is lost. Tie or glue it to wood or stone with the rhizome exposed.
  • Color builds over months. Buce arrives greener than the photos and darkens as it settles into submerged growth — judge it at three months, not on arrival.
  • Keep light moderate. It grows too slowly to outpace algae, so a bright position means algae colonises the leaves faster than the plant replaces them.
  • Divide by cutting the rhizome, keeping several leaves and some root on each section. Shorter pieces stall.
  • Farm-raised, not wild-collected. All the Bucephalandra we carry is farm-grown, and much of it is raised from tissue culture rather than collected from Borneo.

Godzilla and Kedagang are the same name — the color is what tells them apart. See also Pink Godzilla (Kedagang Pink) and Green Godzilla, which are different plants.

Notes

  • Bucephalandra species are naturally slow growers and may experience slight leaf melt during initial acclimation. This is temporary — new healthy growth will emerge once conditions stabilize in your aquarium.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Nice change of pace

Nice change from the usual greeny buce varieties. I attached them to a small bit of cholla wood, which is still trying to float away. Time will tell how the plants adapt to their new home!

Excellent

Plant looked great. Had a deep green and violet color to it. I’d suggest to get the potted version instead of the bare rhizome for a better bang for your buck.

Nice and healthy looking

Came in a day early and was packaged very well. Plants looked very healthy and made a nice addition to my aquarium. And after 3 days of being in the tank my amano shrimp are still alive. So it looks like Plantfactory.com doesn't use a copper base fertilizer when feeding their plants. So highly recommend them and will order more plants from them

Is the Bucephalandra Kedagang Red small as shown in the picture on the hand or is it larger like some of the review pictures?

Aquarium Plants Factory

Great question! Bucephalandra naturally has small, slow-growing leaves, so the size shown next to a hand for scale is a good representation of what you'll typically receive - each plant generally has 5 or more leaves at that compact scale. The larger, more filled-out specimens you see in some review photos are usually the same plant after months (sometimes a year or more) of slow growth in someone's tank, not the size it arrives at. So expect a small starter plant that will gradually bulk up over time with patience.
