Collection: Anubias Plants

Choosing the Right Anubias for Your Aquarium

Anubias is one of the most forgiving genera in the hobby — nearly every variety tolerates low light, skips CO2 entirely, and attaches easily to driftwood or stone instead of substrate. The differences between varieties come down to leaf size, growth habit, and where you want the plant to live in your layout.

By tank placement: Petite and Nana Petite varieties suit nano tanks and foreground accents. Standard Barteri and Congensis fill midground space with larger leaves. Broad Leaf and Large Size varieties make strong background statements in bigger tanks.

By experience level: All Anubias are beginner-friendly, but variegated types (Broad White, Pinto) grow slower and need slightly more consistent light to maintain their coloring — better suited to aquarists comfortable dialing in a stable routine.

Care basics: Never bury the rhizome — tie or glue it to hardscape and let roots anchor naturally. Rhizome rot is the #1 cause of Anubias loss, and it's almost always from burial, not water quality. Read our full Anubias melt and rot guide for troubleshooting and prevention.
